CASE STUDY - ARMAGEDDON EXPO WEBSITE
Armageddon is New Zealand’s largest annual entertainment event held across the country since 1995. A celebration of all things
geek where fans of TV, film, comics, games, cosplay, animation and more revel of all things pop culture and beyond.
Developer Notes
We designed and developed the website to attract, promote and inform an audience of over 130,000 attendees. To manage expo schedules and individual attractions across multiple locations. To manage event sponsors and exhibitors and associated files. All in a customised, easy-to-use CMS.
The website includes some customised development to work for the customer. We developed a custom exhibitors module to allow individual exhibitors to login and add the various information requirements prior to their expo attendance. Such as policy forms like Health & Safety, Hazards, Weapon Policies etc. They can also request specifics related to their stall such as requesting staff passes, extra tables etc. All this information is saved and stored within their account and can be exported from the website for external printing/saving.
The site also includes a custom advertisers module which allows the site owner to add and manage advertisements which are displayed in various locations throughout the website. Other functions include a news module, instagram feed and all the other expo information pages for self management.
Websites like The Armageddon Expo highlight the benefits of working with a website agency who also provides a managed hosting service.
Traffic volume and bandwidth loads are not often considered by most website owners but it's so important.
This site receives over 100,000 unique visitors each month leading up to the expo. That's enough volume to overload average hosting plans.
If this was hosted by some random web-host on a regular plan, it may have collapsed at the first big traffic load.
Which would also be the most inconvenient time to do so — costing a lot in lost revenue!
Good thing we know what we are doing and we set up the hosting capacity to be able to cope and be reliable for the customer.
